Customs intelligence detained a Sharjah-bound passenger with foreign currency worth Tk 73 lakh at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram on Saturday (Oct 5).

The passenger was identified as Mohammad Ali, a resident of Chadaha union of Afzalnagar in Satkania of Chattogram.

A team of customs intelligence conducted a drive and recovered 2,51,790 Dirhams (Tk 73,15,179) from a Sharjah-bound passenger, who hid the foreign currency in his shoulder bag, at 6:30 am.

Besides, six mobile sets were recovered from Mohammed Ali, who was a passenger of Flight Air Arabia, G9-527. 

Six mobile phones were also recovered from him. This passenger made a total of six international trips in 2022.

Additional Director General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate Bashir Ahmed confirmed the matter.

During preliminary interrogation, Ali admitted to smuggling foreign currency earlier, he said, adding a criminal case is being lodged against him with Patenga Police Station.
