Committing to someone is not a piece of cake. While it may seem like a bed of roses initially, over time, it may turn out to be one’s worst nightmare.
In order to escape such turn of events, you must maintain a balance between your partner’s needs and your aims and aspirations. Your partner may be an important aspect of your life but as long as you remain unhappy there is nothing that can save your relationship. That being said, here is how you can be a great partner without losing yourself in the process.
Support your partner without giving up on your own goals
The most important thing in any relationship is the need to be sensitive and supportive. Your partner may be going through a rough patch in their life and you being their support system, you must take care of them. However, that does not mean you give up on your own goals. If you do that, your relationship will gradually crumble and you will not have the same understanding you had initially.
Give them attention only when you’re done attending to your own priorities
Acknowledging your partner and giving them attention is extremely important, but in doing so, you must never compromise your own priorities. If the bond is strong and your partner is understanding, they’ll appreciate your efforts, even if you prioritize yourself.
Give them and yourself some space
Being in a relationship does not mean you invade each other’s space. While there may be time where you need to be together, you must make that you set sufficient boundaries and grow on your own, when needed.
Love them dearly but do not forget Self-love
May people believe that love is the only essential thing in a relationship. While it is true, it is also important that one must love oneself. If you do not take care of yourself and keep considering others’ feelings over yours, then there will surely come a time where you are full of discontent.
Be a part of their adventure but do not give up on your own interests
Doing things together and making memories is something every couple longs for. But as you participate in the things that interests your partner, you must make sure to develop your own skills and take part in your own hobbies. Do not let your relationship govern your interests.
Listen to them but make sure they hear you out too
Communication is the key to a healthy relationship. But it is not a one-way process. If you listen to your partner and hear their problems, it is crucial that you make them listen to you too. Relationship is a bond between two people and therefore, there must be a two way communication, instead of one person doing all the talking.
