A one-day-old newborn baby girl was rescued alive from a dirt drain in Narsingdi.

The baby was found at Daspara area in Chinishpur Union on Sunday (July 31) around 9:30 pm.

According to the police and locals, a local woman heard the sound of a newborn crying in the dirt drain near a Nursery at night. Meanwhile, local residents rescued a newborn wrapped in a plastic bag from the drain. 

Later, the locals rushed the newborn to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital with the help of the police, and treatment started.

Narsingdi Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Feroz Talukder said that an investigation is underway to identify the people, who threw the newborn into the drain.
