Iran arrests 700 'Israeli spies', hangs 3

Iran has executed three men accused of espionage for Israel’s Mossad and arrested 700 others allegedly linked to Israeli intelligence operations.

The executions—carried out in Urmia—targeted individuals identified as Idris Ali, Azad Shojai, and Rasoul Ahmad Rasoul, who were convicted of smuggling assassination equipment into the country.

These developments come just a day after Iran and Israel agreed to halt hostilities following 12 days of intense conflict, which saw the US launch airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan under “Operation Midnight Hammer”.

While President Donald Trump declared a “complete and total ceasefire,” both Tehran and Tel Aviv have since accused each other of violating the truce.

Iranian authorities claim the mass arrests were part of a sweeping crackdown on espionage and sabotage networks allegedly orchestrated by Mossad.

The detainees, described as “mercenaries of Israel,” were reportedly apprehended across multiple provinces, including Tehran, Khuzestan, and Lorestan.

State media reports suggest many were detained for online activity deemed supportive of Israel or for disrupting public order.

The Iranian judiciary has vowed swift and severe punishment for those found guilty of collaborating with Israel.

“There will be no leniency,” said judiciary chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei, urging expedited trials for the accused.

The ceasefire, though technically in effect, remains tenuous. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has accused Israel of fresh drone attacks, while President Trump has publicly urged restraint from both sides.

With tensions still simmering, the region remains on edge—caught between a fragile truce and the threat of renewed confrontation.
