Hamas has released Edan Alexander, a dual US-Israeli national and soldier, amid efforts to revive ceasefire negotiations and end Israel’s blockade on Gaza.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) confirmed that it facilitated the transfer, sharing an image of Alexander with Hamas members and a Red Cross official.

Hamas described the release as a gesture toward US President Donald Trump, who is visiting the Arab Gulf nations this week.

Following brief fighting pauses, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu allowed safe passage for the handover.

Trump hailed Alexander’s release as “great news”, while Netanyahu’s office reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to securing all hostages and missing persons.

The UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) welcomed the development but urged a lasting ceasefire in Gaza.

Alexander’s mother traveled to Israel for their reunion, while reports suggest Israel has not agreed to broader ceasefire negotiations.

Political analysts note frustration in Israel, as Trump’s influence overshadowed Netanyahu’s efforts.

Despite growing calls for an end to the Gaza war, Netanyahu insists on expanding Israel’s offensive.
