DHAKA: Thailand’s embattled prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra will stay in Bangkok through the planned ‘shutdown’ of the capital on Monday.

Thailand officials said, reports The Straits Times.

Anti-government protesters were mobilising on Sunday ahead of the ‘shutdown’ aimed at driving Yingluck out of office and derailing a mid-term poll scheduled for February 2.

But in a measure of the volatility of the situation, Yingluck’s location will not be disclosed, top Cabinet ministers said at a briefing on Sunday.

Over 10,000 policemen and 8,000 army troops will be deployed in Bangkok to manage the protests, deputy prime minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul told reporters.
