DHAKA: A Saudi diplomat posted in Sri Lanka was found dead in a swimming pool in the capital Colombo.

The local police however said preliminary investigations did not suspect foul play in the death of Hussain Mohsin Al Haj who had been posted in Colombo since 2011.

Saudi news site Sabq said that the Sri Lankan police believed the diplomat had most likely suffered a heart attack and drowned.

The ambassador Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman Al Jammaz is following the case and has requested the authorities to conduct wide investigations into it, Sabq added, reports gulfnews.com.

ColomboPage, an online site in Sri Lanka, said that the 43-year-old Saudi national was an accountant in the Saudi embassy and that he was swimming in a pool of an apartment complex in Bambalapitiya when he apparently had a heart attack and drowned.

Quoting Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana, it said that the Saudi national was found unconscious in the pool by his four-year-old son and that he was rushed to a private hospital where he was pronounced dead.
