DHAKA: Iran inaugurated the production line of a new domestically manufactured missile, named the ‘Sayyad-2’, during a ceremony in Tehran on Saturday.

The ‘Sayyad-2’ is a medium-range missile which is capable of destroying various types of helicopters, drones, and other targets at high altitudes, Iranian defence minister Hossein Dehqan told reporters on the sidelines of the ceremony.

It is a high-speed and solid-fuel missile, he added, Tehran Times prints this report on Sunday.

It was announced in August that Iranian experts had upgraded the Russian-made long-range medium-to-high altitude surface-to-air S-200 missile system by installing ‘Sayyad-2’ missiles on the system.

Iran had earlier unveiled ‘Sayyad 1’ surface-to-air missile which is capable of destroying targets with low Radar Cross Section (RCS) at low and medium altitudes, according to the Fars News Agency.

The system enjoys the capability to defuse jamming and electronic warfare attacks.

Dehqan also announced that the research work on the ‘Talash’ air-defence missile system had been accomplished.

The ‘Talash’ system were designed to track the targets of the ‘Sayyad-2’ missile and will soon be mass produced, he said.
