COVID vaccination of 5-11yr children begins

The government on Thursday (August 11) has begun the COVID-19 vaccination campaign for children aged between five and 11 on an experimental basis.

Today, 16 students of 1st to fifth grade of Abul Bashar Government Primary School at Mohammadpur area in the capital will be vaccinated.

Health Minister Zahid Malek will inaugurate the vaccination program at Bangabandhu International Conference Center at 12:30 PM.

Earlier, Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Malik said formal vaccination of the children will begin in the last week of this month after successful completion of experimental inoculation.

He was addressing a programme marking Breastfeeding Week at National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine (NIPSOM) in the capital on Sunday.

The minister said, “We currently have about 3 million doses of vaccine for children. With these, we can vaccinate 1.5 million children between the ages of 5 and 11 years. More vaccines will be introduced for children later”.
