DHAKA: A soiree of Qawwali will be arranged at New Chancery Complex in UN Road in city’s Baridhara area on Monday.

Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) will organize the program, to be performed by Yousuf Khan Nizami, an Indian singer in Sufi and modern Qawwali songs, and his troupe, said a press release sent from Indian High Commission on Sunday evening.

The soiree will begin at 7:30pm.

However, Yousuf Khan Nizami, who belongs to famous Sikandarabad Gharana which includes various legendary singers like Ustad Qudratullah Khan Sahab and Ustad Kifayatullah Khan Sahab, has earned fame by performing in several countries including Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Mauritius, South Africa, England, Spain and The Netherlands.

On the other hand, Qawwali is a form of devotional song bifurcated from Khayaal singing, and is rooted in the mystical tradition of the Sufism where music is a powerful spiritual realization.

A number of singers of various traditional Gharana excelled in Qawwali which has become a part of the strong musical tradition of India.

Yousuf Khan Nizami belongs to the same sect of Qawwali singers.
