Another BSMRSTU assist proctor resigned, students protest continues

GOPALGANJ: Dr Md Torequl Islam, assistant proctor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science & Technology University (BSMRSTU) resigned from his post protesting the recent attacks on the students and ongoing situation of the varsity.

Dr Md Torequl Islam is an assistant professor at the pharmacy department of the university in Gopalganj.

Earlier on September 25, another assistant proctor Dr Md Nazmul Haque resigned from the post citing ‘personal reason’. University registrar professor Nuruddin Ahmed accepted his resign letter.   

Besides, another assistant proctor, lecturer Humayun Kabir, resigned from the post protesting the attacks on the students on September 21.

Student Protest enters day-8

Students of the varsity are staging their protest programme in front of the administrative buildings for the ninth consecutive day on Thursday, demanding resignation of VC Prof Khondoker Md Nasiruddin bringing allegations against him of sexual harassment, nepotism in recruiting teachers.

Agitating students are continuing their fast-unto-death programme since September 19.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU) declared a 15-day holiday starting from Sunday (September 21) on the occasion of Durga Puja amid the ongoing protests for resignation of Vice Chancellor professor Dr Khondaker Nasir.

The students staged protest rally at the university’s administrative building and brought out procession on the campus to press their one-point demand on September 19. Later, they declared fast unto death that afternoon. 

Around 20 students were injured as outsiders allegedly attacked them while they were demonstrating outside the campus around 11:00am on September 21.

The protesters brought 14 specific allegations against the VC Prof Nasir including sexual harassment, nepotism in recruiting teachers and employees and corruption in development projects.
