ADB to lend Tk 936cr for child-friendly edu

DHAKA: A loan pact of Tk 936 crore has been signed between government’s Economic Relations Department (ERD) and Asian Development Bank (ADB) to ensure child-friendly educational environment in Bangladesh.

The signing ceremony was held at National Economic Council (NEC) in the Planning Ministry Monday noon.

Senior secretary of ERD Mohammad Mezbah Uddin and  country director of ADB Kazuhiko Higuchi signed the deal on behalf of respective side. 

The pact has been inked under Third Primary Education Development Program (3). As per deal the loan will be repaid in next 25 years, with 2 percent interest rate.

The loan will be utilized to ensure effective and children-friendly education for all students of pre-primary level.

The main target of this program is to remove discrimination through increasing universal access to primary education.
