DHAKA: The government has appointed former vice-chancellor of Chittagong University (CU) Professor Abdul Mannan as new chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) in place of Professor Dr AK Azad Chowdhury for the next four years.

The education ministry issued a gazette notification on Wednesday regarding the appointment of Professor Abdul Mannan.

The ministry’s deputy secretary Subodh Chandra Dhali confirmed the matter to banglanews.

However, Professor Dr AK Azad Chowdhury was appointed in the post in 2011.

Professor Mannan acquired his MA degree in Management from Dhaka University in 1972 and in the next year he joined as a lecturer at Management Department in Chittagong University.
