Rokeya University opens after 4 months

RANGPUR: The university administration has opened Rokeya University on Sunday morning after 4 months of its closure following the movement on its vice-chancellor’s (VC) resignation.

In presence of executive magistrate Mizanur Raman and assistant police super (ASP) Ashok Kumar Paal, police members opened the gate of the university’s administration building.

Besides, the locks of academic buildings had also opened during the drive.

On the other hand, students, on information of university opening, started to gather on the campus. They also brought out processions demanding classes and examinations.

However, tension prevailed on the campus as a group of teachers and employees brought out processions protesting the opening of the university.

No clashes reported due to the deployment of additional police forces on the campus.

The protesters were staying in front of the police camp on the campus while anti-movement teachers, employees and students were sitting-in in front of the administration building while filing the report.

Spokesperson of the protesters Tabiur Rahman told banglanews that there is no alternative of the resignation of the incumbent VC.

An anti-movement official on condition of anonymity said that the university has been opened as the protesters did not respond to the calls of talks with the VC.
