UNDP, DU organize innovative research training

DHAKA: A two-day training session on innovative research began on Tuesday under the ‘Pro-Poor Trade’ project of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with University of Dhaka (DU).

The training session, held at the Social Science Faculty Building in DU, will end on Wednesday.

The project, an innovative research initiative, combines the strength of UNDP with the knowledge of Dhaka University, one of the leading institutions of higher education in Bangladesh.

The DU students are being trained to collect ‘micro-narratives’ from the poorest districts of Bangladesh, seeking new perspectives on how the poorest market actors engage with national and international value chains.

After the training session, the students will travel to 18 districts gathering narratives from a wide range of rural and urban locations.

UNDP will analyze these micro-narratives together with partners in the sector, building a longer-term intervention in pro-poor trade to ensure that economic growth reaches the poorest.

UNDP Deputy Country Director Nick Beresford launched the training session jointly with Department of Development Studies chairman Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan of DU.
