DHAKA: Indonesia undoubtedly is the first line country whose sailors are famous for sailing ships worldwide. Cadets of Shah Marine and Business Institute, Bangladesh will get the opportunity of sailing the ships of archipelago country Indonesia.

About 13,000 ships of Indonesia now are sailing worldwide in various sea routes. But the country is now producing only 5,000 cadets annually which are inadequate for the demand.

So, the attentions of the Indonesian shipping companies have fallen on Bangladesh. In this case, Bangladesh’s first private Marine Academy is in the front.

In this connection on last November 27 Director of United Kingdom Trade and Investment Tiiu invited Shah Marine to Jakarta to discuss the matter of appointing Bangladeshi cadets.

Managing Director of Shah Marine and Business Institute Shah Mominul Islam Chowdhury held a meeting there with President Director Masli Mulia of Samudera, the biggest shipping company of Indonesia.

In the long three hour meeting there was discussion about the feasibility of engaging the Shah Marine cadets in the Indonesian ships. Shah Mominul pointed out in the meeting the success and skill of the Bangladeshi mariners.

During the meeting Masli Mulia said that the Indonesia-produced mariners mostly have no training from Britain. But in sailing profession training from Britain is necessary.

To this point Shah Mominul informed Masli that the cadets of Shah Marine undergo one year of two year course at South Tyneside College of UK. In that context the cadets of Shah Marine are better positioned in the job market than others, Shah Mominul added.

Shah Mominul informed Banglanews that they held meetings with 21 shipping companies in Jakarta. All of companies have expressed their interests about Shah Marine cadets. They are going to make agreements with the Indonesian companies in this matter soon.

However, the cadets of Shah Marine Business Institute are employed in the shipping lines of Singapore, Denmark, Kuwait and other international companies of the world.
