Korean investors to help local communities’ education

DHAKA: The Korean Investors Association in Bangladesh (KIAB), with the support of the Korean Embassy, helps improve the educational environment in their local communities.

The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) ceremony of the KIAB was held on December 9, 2014 in the Gazirchat Primary School in Savar, said a press release.

H.E. Mr. Lee Yun-young, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Bangladesh graced ceremony as Chief Guest. Among others, Mr. Leo Kim, Chairman of KIAB, Mr. Yoon Hee, Chairman of Korean Community in Bangladesh and Mr. Ibrahim Khalil, Headmaster of the Gazirchat Primary School also attended the ceremony.

Teachers, students, parents of the school and members of the KIAB got together to congratulate on the occasion.

The KIAB has done various kinds of CSR activities to contribute to the local communities so far.

In the continuation of these efforts, the KIAB has firstly joined with the Korean Embassy in Bangladesh and helped improve the educational environment of the Gazirchat Primary School in Savar, where most of Korean investors’ factories are located.

In this occasion, Leo Kim, Chairman of KIAB and Ibrahim Khalil, Headmaster of the Gazirchat Primary School signed a MOU for further cooperation on behalf of each side. The KIAB is planning to expand these collective CSR activities to other neighboring schools in the near future.

In the first phase, the KIAB has donated students’ desks and chairs, whiteboards and drinking facility. The next phases of donations will be followed shortly.

Korean Ambassador Lee Yun-young said “Korean investors have been long-time friends since they first arrived and invested here in Bangladesh as the frontier investors in the late 1970s.”

“Now over 220 Korean companies in Bangladesh employ more than 160,000 Bangladeshi workers and exporting 1.6 billion dollars accounting for 6 percent of the total exports of Bangladesh,” he added.

Leo Kim, Chairman of KIAB, highlighted: “Korean investors put high importance on the relationship with our local communities and neighbors and will keep trying our best to repay what we owe to Bangladesh, which is our second mother country.”
