‘Education budget reduced in Bangladesh’

CHITTAGONG: Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid expressed his dissatisfaction about the budget allotment in education sector as it has been decreasing day by day in the country.

The minister came up with this assertion while visiting Fulki School in the port city around 12:30pm Wednesday.

He claimed that there was 14 percent of total budget for education sector when he took the ministry. But, it has now been reduced to 11 percent

The government should give priority on education sector as it can free the country from backwardness, Nahid added.

He also claimed that the incumbent government handed over new books to 4.44 crore students on the first day of 2014.

“We have many challenges in this sector, but, we are trying hard to overcome them,” the minister remarked.

Nahid also visited some other colleges and was scheduled to join a seminar in Chittagong Government College in the afternoon.
