Teachers’ indefinite strike at Nazrul University

MYMENSINGH: The Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University Teachers’ Association went on an indefinite strike for the second consecutive day on Monday demanding exemplary punishment to attackers on the association president.

No classes and scheduled examinations were held in the university on the day.

General Secretary of the association Sohel Rana told banglanews, that, on October 8, leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) attacked the president’s room, carried out vandalism there, leaving him injured.

Following the attack, the association began movement demanding trial to the culprits.

Later, the association suspended the movement on written assurance from the university vice-chancellor, Professor Mohitul Alam.

Since then, no step to bring the culprits under punishment has taken, even the concerning probe committee did not submit it report.

The association announces the strike for indefinite period of time on Sunday demanding immediate submission of probe committee report and punishment to the culprits, said Rana.

He, however, confirmed that no class and scheduled examination was held in the university.
