COMILLA: The students of Comilla University Sunday came out of classrooms and staged a raucous demonstration against the decision on changing its name into Comilla University of Science and Technology.

The agitating students barricaded vehicles with burning tyres in front of the main gate of the University. They declared their stance to carry out the agitation and boycott of classes and examinations until the University authorities reverse the decision.

Education Ministry has sent a letter to Comilla University asking the authorities to take action to convert the varsity to Comilla University of Science and Technology. Enacting the law for the change is in the process according to the approval of the cabinet.

“The Education Ministry has sent a letter and I can’t tell anymore,” said acting Registrar of the University Kamal Uddin Bhuiyan.

Officer-in-Charge of Comilla Sadar police station (South) told banglanews24.com.bd over phone that the agitating students staged a procession and halted vehicles for a while. “But police took the situation under control.”
