IUB’s Aditya Parvez lifts national powerlifting title for 5th time

Aditya Parvez, a student of Marketing at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), has become the national powerlifting champion for the fifth consecutive time. He has also been adjudged the Best Overall Lifter for the 4th time.

The Bangladesh Bangladesh Powerlifting Championship 2022 was organized by the Bangladesh Powerlifting Association on January 18, 2023 at the Sheikh Russel Roller Skating Complex in Dhaka. Aditya came out on top in his favourite 93+ weight category.

“It makes me very happy how rapidly the sport is growing and every year I have been able to give it my best on stage with the best athletes of the country. I hope to push myself even further and make it to the top of the hill,” said Aditya, who also won a bronze medal in the Deadlifts category in the Asian Powerlifting Championship held in Dubai in December 2022.

Before this year, Aditya has been the national powerlifting champion for four consecutive times from 2018-2021 and the Best Overall Lifter of the country in 2018, 2019 and 2020.

Powerlifting, which is different from weightlifting, is a strength sport that consists of three attempts at maximal weight on three lifts: squat, bench press, and deadlift. In powerlifting the focus is to lift as much weight as possible in a single plane of motion. In weightlifting, on the other hand, there are two movements: snatch, and clean and jerk.
