Bangladeshi Shahidul Beaches-East York Association director

DHAKA: Bangladeshi-Canadian Shahidul Islam Mintu was elected as director of Beaches-East York Riding Association of the ruling party of Canada and chairman of Public Relations and Communications.

Association President Gord Baker announced the names of elected director and committee chairmen in Toronto in the evening on December 9.

Shahidul Islam Mintu, who has been working with ruling Conservative Party of Canada for a long time, said he was delighted about the achievement.

He further said he thought every Bangladeshi expatriates living in Canada should participate in the mainstream politics of the country.

Shahidul Islam Mintu, the editor of a bangla newspaper published from Toronto ‘Weekly Bangla Mail’ and ‘’, is a much known face in the local community.

He also worked at several first class newspapers of Bangladesh like Dainik Ajker Kagoj and Banglabazar Patrika and worked as president of Bangladesh Cultural Reporters Association (BCRA).

He also made the first beta format movie of Bangladesh ‘Devdas’ and many popular television drama serials and tele-films.

He received many awards, including Bachsas (Bangladesh Chalacchitra Sangbadik Samity) Award, Sher-e-Bangla gold medal and BCRA Award.

He has been living in Canada since 2004.
