Bashundhara starts selling essential at fair prices in Ctg city

Bashundhara Group, the country’s largest business conglomerate, started selling essential commodities at fair prices on Sunday to reduce the inflation pressures on poor and middle-class consumers of the port city.

Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Abul Bashar Mohammed Fakhruzzaman inaugurated the sales programme at C&B intersection in the city’s Kalurghat area.

Bashundhara Food and Beverage Industries Limited (BFBIL) arranged the sales initiative under the slogan “Bashundharar Ponno, Bhoktar Jonno” across the country marking the holy month of Ramadan.

This year, BFBIL is selling a total of 31 products, including soybean oil, mustard oil, flour, rice, noodles, tea bags and spices, in trucks.

DC Fakhruzzaman said, “I welcome this noble initiative taken by Bashundhara Group to sell these essential commodities at a fair price.”

“If other business groups come forward in this way, it will have a positive impact on the market,” he said.

BFBIL Assistant General Manager Borhan Uddin said Bashundhara Group has come forward to support consumers by providing essential commodities at affordable prices through truck sales across different locations in the country, in a bid to alleviate the inflationary pressure during the month of Ramadan.

“We are getting overwhelming response on the first day of the sales. The sale activities will be continued from 8:00am to 4:00pm every day till 27th of Ramadan,” Borhan Uddin added.

Garment worker Md Abdur Rashid, who had queued for some products, said he bought mustard oil at Tk265 per litre, which is in sharp contrast to the TK360 per litre he has to pay at an average shop.

"[Nevertheless] This is sufficient for me and my family during this Ramadan. I would like to thank Bashundhara Group for such an initiative," he said.
