HSC exams under candlelight in Rangpur! An exam hall in Rangpur town on Monday.

RANGPUR: Hundreds of examinees in Rangpur town sat for their first exam of HSC and equivalent 2019 by the light of candles after Sunday night’s storm had caused power outage.

All the power connections in the town were snapped due to the last night storm, said Northern Electricity Supply Company (NESCO) Executive Engineer Delwar Hossain.

Afterwards, the links were restored around 11:45am Monday (April 1), nearly two hours since beginning of the exam at 10am.

While visited, examinees at Govt Begum Rokeya College were seen entering the halls with candles in hand.

The same scenario was seen in most of the exam centers in the town.

“They (the students) are having severe troubles,” said Govt Begum Rokeya College Principal Mobakkharul Islam.

Guardians raised questions at the authorities for not taking alternative to the power disconnection.

However, HSC and its equivalent exams were being held at 199 centers in eight districts under Rangpur division this year.
