DHAKA: The government has allocated Tk 3 crore for renovating a total of 428 primary schools damaged during the 10th national polls.

Directorate of Primary Education on Sunday approved the allocation of Tk 3,07,52,500 in this connection.

The Director General (DG) of Directorate of Primary Education Shyamal Kanti Ghosh told banglanews that the allocated amount would be distributed from now on among the affected institutions.

BNP-Jamaat activists boycotted the 10th national polls and reportedly vandalized and torched many academic institutions which were used as polling centers.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid earlier asked the authorities concerned to assess the level of destruction and damage in this connection.

In response to the query, the Director (Planning and Development) of Directorate of Primary Education Manindra Nath Roy said a total of 457 academic institutions were damaged and it would take Tk 7-crore for repairing and renovation.

The DG of Directorate of Primary Education Shyamal Kanti Ghosh said the allocation would be increased if necessary.
