JU steps into 44th years

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY: JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY (JU, a public university in Bangladesh, stepped into 44th year of glory on January 12.

To mark the anniversary, the university authority has chalked out a day-long programme.

The university day has been inaugurated at 9:30am at Arts Faculty premises of the campus. Later, a joyous colorful rally was brought out from there and paraded the campus.

A discussion program was scheduled to be held at Mukto Mancha around 11:00am. A cultural function is to be held at the same place at 3:00pm.

However the whole campus got a festive look to celebrate on occasion the 44th birthday of the varsity. The administration and different student organization is scheduled to observe the day with daylong programme. All the former and present students, teachers and employees are invited to join the program of the university.

Jahangirnagar University was formally launched on January 12, 1970 under the Jahangirnagar Muslim University Ordinance, 1970. So the day is observed as University Day.

It is the only fully residential university in the country located in Savar Upazila, Dhaka.

At the time of starting, its name was Jahangirnagar Muslim University but after the independence of Bangladesh, its name changed as Jahangirnagar University under the act of Jahangirnagar University Act` 1973.

In recent days the university has a total of 15,000 students, 672 teachers, 206 staffs and 1,800 other employees. Dr. M Anwar Hossain is the Vice-Chancellor of the university. The university is enriched with eligible and highly skilled teachers and with a plenty of choices of subject. The university has got 16 student halls which are divided equally between male and female students.

Besides all of these Jahangirnagar University has a big library having a huge collection of book established 1985. It is located at a convenient place between the main academic buildings and the dormitories. It is behind the monument of "Sangshaptak". The whole area is covered with WI-FI technology. There are more than 110,000 books & 14,000 hard bound journals & 22,000 online journals in the library. More than 170 students can seat & study in the library. There is also a cyber center in the premises of the library. Airy with ample glass openings, the library is an elegant piece of Architecture and has a collection of over 95,000 titles.

The University also has its own medical center for the students,the teachers and the stuffs. The center provides twenty -four hours service. It is supervised by the chief medical officers with a stuff of qualified doctors.

The teachers’ student center TSC headed by a director the prime role in improving the relation between the teachers and the students of the campus. It is the center of cultural activities of the university. Different cultural groups usually performed drama and cultural programs at Muktomancha. Shaptam Chayamancha is a great attraction for the students at leisure period.

Moreover, In TSC complex, there are an auditorium and a seminar hall to hold seminars, meetings and cultural programmes. The auditorium has an arrangement of 1500 seats, while the seminar hall accommodates 250 persons. It is a fully furnished auditorium for playing drama, cultural activities, international conference & many more.

The university is also famous for its artistic architectural creation. At last but not at least the natural beauty of the campus attracts all to bow down and admire its elegance and dignity.
