DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the government is arresting BNP leaders and activists across the country because it is plunged into a daydream of being in power forever.

He made the remarks at a press release on Wednesday afternoon (June 20).

Fakhrul said the government is smearing fear and panic among people to influence the upcoming Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) election. Arresting BNP men, filing case against them and torturing them in remand is like a sick joke to the government now.

Fakhrul also said former Kashimpur chairman and nomination seeker to contest in the Gazipur city polls mayoral polls Shawkat Hossain is a victim of government’s politics of vengeance. We are denouncing his arrest and demanding his immediate unconditional release withdrawing the false case.
