Fakhrul sees some positive results in PM’s India visit BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir speaking at an iftar party

DHAKA: Terming Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s India visit somewhat positive, BNP secretary general mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said constructing ‘Bangladesh Bhaban’ at Shantiniketan is a good thing; however, people haven’t get to see their share of Teesta water yet.

The senior BNP leader made the remarks at an iftar party organized by Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar) in city’s Emmanuelle's Convention Center on Friday evening (May 25).

Fakhrul said when Awami League formed government, they said Teesta Water treaty is just a matter of time but no treaty have been made with India after nine years. In the meantime, treaties such as military and trade are being done.

“Of course we must buildup relationships and form treaties with neighboring countries but people should also know that what are going to have in return”, he said.

On issue of election, Fakhrul criticized the government saying it has turned polls into farce. He also expressed concerned over the Election Commission’s decision to amend the election code of conduct allowing member of parliaments to run campaigns. ‘This change will be an obstacle to fair polls’, he added.

Fakrul also said there will be no parliamentary election in the country keeping Khaleda Zia in jail as it is the ultimate plan of the government.
