BNP to accept mandate in polls under non-party govt: Fakhrul

DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that his party will accept the mandate of people in general elections which will be held under a non-party government.  

He said this after paying tributes to Ziaur Rahman, founder of the BNP and the late President, at his grave at Sher-E-Bangla Nagar in the city on Saturday (December 16).

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia along with her party leaders and activists went there to pay tributes to Ziaur Rahman on the occasion of country’s 47th Victory Day. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was present among the leaders.

Mirza Fakhrul said that the country did not achieve the goal of the Liberation War even after 47 years of the war. The democracy is now in exile. The rights of the people are now violated, he added.  

The BNP leader alleged that the government wants to establish the one-party rule in the country. BNP will struggle for restoring the democracy, he said.

He further alleged that they faced obstacle on the way to pay tributes.
