Tarique, 3 others indicted in sedition charge

DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Monday (November 20) issued arrest warrants against BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman and two others over broadcasting a speech of Tarique Rahman.

The court issued the arrest warrant after framing the charge-sheet against four accused in the case.  

The three other accused in the case are former chairman of Ekushey TV Abdus Salam and two former journalists of the private channel- the-then chief reporter Mahathir Faruki and special correspondent Konok Sarwar.

Abdus Salam was granted bail in the case. He appeared before the country and pleaded innocence. He demanded justice after court read out the charges.

Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah of the Sessions Judge's Court issued the warrant and read out the charges.

The court set January 15 for starting trial in the case.

On January 4 in 2015, Ekushey TV broadcasted a live speech of Tarique Rahman who is now staying in London.

Following the day, Abdus Salam was arrested during his return to the residence from the ETV office at Kawran Bazar.

On January 8, sub-inspector (SI) of Tejgoan police station Burhan Uddin filed the sedition case.
