BNP rally has no relation with democracy: Quader

DHAKA UNIVERSITY: Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader has said that BNP rally has no relation with democracy whether it exists or not in this country.

He said while responding a question of reporters at a function at the National Museum in city’s Shahbagh on Wednesday (November 8).

The cultural program was organized by Awami League in celebration of declaration of Bangabandhu's historic speech on March 7 by the United Nations.

Obaidul Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, made the comment as a reply to the statement made by BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

The BNO leader had said, “The government repeatedly says that it doesn’t obstruct democratic programs. A request was made to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) for holding a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on November 7, but our request is not granted yet. We hope that government will give permission to facilitate democratic rights.”

Obaidul Quader said that “During BNP regime, we sought permission to hold a program on 21st February three days earlier, but in vain. On the contrary, they vandalized our stage which was erected in front of our party office.”

The Minister added that the matter is up to DMP commissioner. The government has no relation with it whatsoever.
