BNP to join EC talks Sunday

DHAKA: The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is set to join the talks arranged by the Election Commission (EC) on Sunday to place its proposals for holding the next general election.

A 17-member delegation of the party led by its secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to join the EC’s talks to be held at 11:00 am on Sunday (October 15) at the EC Secretariat building in the city.

Director (Public Relations) of the EC SM Asaduzzaman confirmed the matter to the Banlanews on Saturday (October 14). He said that the top leaders of the BNP are in the delegation. The BNP sent the list to the EC.  

The EC is holding electoral dialogue with political parties in the country. Many parties have already joined the dialogue at the invitation of the commission.

The EC also invited the BNP in the talks. EC secretary Helaluddin Ahmed had sent a letter to the BNP to take part in the talks.  

Earlier on the day, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda expressed his hope that the BNP will take part in the next general elections and the talks with the commission.

Nurul Huda said that the BNP leaders during their meetings held in different times with the CEC assured him personally and formally that the party will join the next general elections.
