BNP blames govt for rice price hike

DHAKA: The BNP has blamed the government’s mismanagement for the price hike of rice. The people are facing miseries for the price hike, the party said.

The party’s standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan raised the allegation at a human chain in front of the National Press Club in the city on Monday (September 18).

The human chain was formed protesting the attack at the residence of BNP’s standing committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy during preparation of Puja festival.

BNP vice chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu presided over the program while the party’s another vice chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu, senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed and central executive committee member Abu Naser Mohammad Rahmatullah also attended the human chain, among others.

Nazrul Islam Khan said that the people are losing the ability of buying the rice due to its high rate. But the government has no headache in this regard. The government’s mismanagement is responsible for the price hike, he added.

The BNP leader came down heavily on Food Minister Quamrul Islam for his Myanmar visit along with his wife for importing rice.  Quamrul Islam visited Myanmar on pleasure tour in the name of importing rice, he commented.

“When thousands of Rohigya people are being killed and fleeing Myanmar for atrocities of its government and army in Rakhine State, at the time Quamrul Islam visited Myanmar for importing rice. If he goes there for importing rice, why he was accompanied by his wife during such a situation? So, it is nothing but pleasure tour,” he said.

Nazrul Islam Khan also criticized the government for its role following violation of Bangladesh’s airspace by Myanmar for several times.
