Verdict not written by SK Sinha: Justice Manik

DHAKA: Former judge of the Supreme Court Justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik has expressed his doubt whatever Chief Justice SK Sinha writes the full text of the verdict on the 16th constitutional amendment.

“It is impossible to write his 400 pages in 25 days. He did not write his part of the verdict. It is clear that the verdict is not written by him at all. If you see the verdict, you will find words that were never used in any earlier verdict of SK Sinha. So it is clear that someone else- probably some Pakistani ISI agents - wrote the 16th constitutional amendment verdict," Justice Manik said on Saturday (August 26).

He said these while speaking at a discussion meeting at the Dhaka Reporters Unity in the capital city. An organization named Swadhinata Parishad, arranged the discussion to mark the National Mourning Day.

Justice Manik, who had worked at the Appellate Division of the SC and got involved in bickering with Chief Justice Sinha before his retirement in 2016, came down heavily on the Chief Justice and wants his resignation.

He called upon SK Sinha to leave the country alongside with resignation from his post. “You will not only step down, you have to leave the country too because you don’t recognize Bangabandhu's leadership,” he said.

Justice Manik said that SK Sinha touched on irrelevant topics in the verdict and made politically motivated statements. “He has no right to remain in his post as he violated the constitution and the oath,” he said.

Awami League’s publicity secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud was the chief guest in the function. Former state minister for home Shamdul Haque also spoke it, among others.
