Govt must take responsibility for attack: Imran H Sarker

DHAKA: The Shahbagh Ganajagaran Mancha spokesperson Dr Imran H Sarker has said that the government and the administration have to take reasonability for the attack on him.

Dr Imran at a press conference at the National Press Club in the city on Sunday afternoon (August 20) said that the government will also be responsible for any untoward incident happens following the incident of Shahbagh.  

The Ganajagaran Mancha spokesperson said that he came under attack of the miscreants at Shahbagh in the city when he along with several other activists of the Mancha was collecting relief for the flood affected people.

“We had filed a case in this connection. But the administration has not arrested anybody till now. It proves that the government is behind the attack to divert the people’s attention from the sufferings created following the flood. The government is continuing such attack to hide issue one after another,” he said.  

Noted educationist Dr Ajy Roy, NGO activist Khushi Kabir and president of Bangladesh Chhatra Union Jilani Shuvo also attended the press conference, among others.   

Imran H Sarker came under attack frequently on August 17 and August 17 allegedly by the activists of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of the ruling Awami League.

The BCL men attacked him in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh on August 17 when Imran H Sarker was collecting relief for the flood affected people in front of the National Museum.

The Ganajagaran Mancha spokesperson came under attack again on August 18 also allegedly by the BCL men. The BCL men launched the attack on him in front of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in same fashion they were attacked on August 17.

Earlier on July 16, a group of the BCL men attacked the car of Imran H Sarker in Dhaka court area when he was leaving the court after attending the hearing of a case filed against him. The BCL men had thrown rotten eggs at him.

Imran H Sarker had made comments against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina over removal of the Lady Justice statue from the Supreme Court premises.
