DHAKA: The High Court on Sunday (July 9) cleared again the way for Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) Mayor MA Mannan to resume its duties.

Simultaneously, the court issued a rule asking why the suspension order would not be declared illegal.

The HC also cancelled the appointment of one Asadur Rahman Kiron as Acting GCC mayor and ordered not to obstruct Mannan from discharging his duties as the mayor.

An HC bench comprised of Justice Syed Mohammad Dastogir Hossain and Justice M Ataur Rahman issued the orders after hearing a writ plea in the evening.

Earlier, in the morning, the GCC Mayor also Vice Chairman of Gazipur city unit BNP MA Mannan filed a writ petition challenging the legitimacy of the suspension order.

On Thursday (July 6) Mannan was suspended from his position as GCC Mayor as Gazipur special judge's court takes the charge-sheet into cognizance in a case against him filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Local government division then issued a notice ordering the temporary suspension.

As per the notice, on June 12 in 2016, ACC filed the case with Joydebpur thana accusing MA Mannan and Golam Kibria for misappropriating Tk 49 lakh belonged to GCC by formulating unsigned fake vouchers while serving as mayor of Gazipur.
