DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that no general election will be tolerated in the country without the participation of his party.

He was addressing a protest rally staged for the disappearance and killing of their leaders-activists including party’s former organizing secretary Ilias Ali at the National Press Club on Thursday noon (April 20).

Earlier on Wednesday (April 19), Awami League presidium member and health and family welfare minister Mohammed Nasim said that the next elections will be held under Sheikh Hasina even without the presence of BNP.

In response, Mirza Fakhrul said, it won’t be useful to intimidate BNP with cancellation of election registration; rather they should create a political environment so that BNP can participate.

“The ruling government has no actual mass support. That is why they are giving away the country to India with name of deceitful treaties.”

Mirza Fakhrul also alleged that the government is involved in the politics of wiping out the opposition party’s existence.
