DHAKA: The government has approved the draft of Civil Service Act 2018 with provision of permission from authorities concerned before arresting its employees accused in criminal cases.

The draft law was approved in a regular cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at PMO on Monday (August 20).

After the meeting, cabinet secretary Shafiul Alam briefed reporters. 

He said, “According to the section 41(1) of the draft law, permission from authorities concerned will be needed before arresting a government official who is not charge-sheeted in any criminal case.”

The draft law also includes provision of recruitment in the public service based on merit and open competition. Moreover, employees will also get promotion based on merit, competence, seniority and other qualities.
