DINAJPUR:  A high-level investigation committee, formed after a pregnant woman denied admission at Fulbari Upazila Health Complex in Dinajpur and gave birth under a tree on the hospital premises, visited the site on Tuesday (August 14).

The 3-member committee, headed by Rangpur Divisional Director of Health Department Dr. Mostafizur Rahman, was formed on Monday night (August 13).

The committee was asked to submit report within 3 working days.

Fulbari Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Nurul Islam confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

Earlier, 2 committees were formed.

The victim was identified as Rina Begum, 33, wife of Rickshaw driver Abu Taher, hails from Bashpukur village under Hamidpur union in Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur district.

Abu Taher took his wife, Rina Begum, to Fulbari Upazila Health Complex at 5 am on Sunday (August 12). However, on-duty nurses- Rojina Akther and Afroja Akther -did not admit Rina to the hospital, rather advised Abu Taher to go to a private clinic. The nurses even forced them to leave the hospital building. They did not explain the cause as to why Rina would not be admitted there.

Feeling confuted in an untoward situation, Abu Taher took shelter under a tree located just in front of the hospital. At that time, Rina gave birth to a baby girl amid huge crowd. The mother of a shopkeeper in the neighborhood came to their assistance. Later, the mother and the baby were taken to the hospital amid resistance from the people.
