Actress Nawshaba held for spreading rumors on Facebook RAB arrested actress Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed from Uttara

DHAKA: The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested actress Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed from city’s Uttara area on Saturday night (August 4) for allegedly spreading rumours on Facebook over the attack on protesting students at Jhigatola.

RAB legal and media wing director Commander Mufti Mahmud Khan made the disclosure at a press conference held in RAB-1 office on early Sunday (August 5).

Actress Quazi Nawshaba was taken to RAB-1 office for interrogation, he said.

The arrest came after she posted a video on Facebook urging people to “save the students from attacks” and claiming that two students were killed. She also falsely claimed that attackers gouged out a student’s eyes. She urged her Facebook friends to “come forward in saving the children.”

Her comments are believed to have played a role in the violent clash at Jhigatola on Saturday noon when 20-25 students were injured by alleged Awami League activists.

However, later at evening, protesting students visited AL’s Dhanmondi political office and said they tried to move towards AL office after hearing rumors about several boys and girls students were being held in there.

The ongoing student protest for road safety started following the death of two college students in a road accident in the capital's Kurmitola area on July 29.
