DHAKA: Benazir Ahmed, Director General of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), on Sunday (July 22) expressed deep concern over the huge amount of mobile banking transactions towards Cox’s Bazar.
He also urged home minister Asaduzzman Khan Kamal to shut down all Cox’s Bazar-bound mobile banking services for two months.
RAB DG made the request while addressing the inaugural program of anti-narcotics advertisement titled ‘Lets go to war against narcotics’ at RAB media center in city’s Karwan Bazar area on Sunday (July 22).
Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan was present at the program as chief guest.
Benazir said to the Home Minister, “Only 23 lakh people live in Cox’s Bazar. There are no industries or factories in there. So where does the huge amount of money, transferred through mobile banking, going? We have reasonable suspicion that these transactions are connected with drug trading. So I am requesting to close all Cox’s Bazar-bound mobile banking services for at least two months till we investigate the matter.”
