SHARIATPUR: A drug peddler was killed in a reported 'gunfight' with members of Detective Branch of police at Nagerpara of Gosairhat upazila Friday (June 15).

The deceased was identified as Ruhul Amin Bagha, 50, of Bagha Upazila of Rajshahi district.  

On information, detectives and thana police mounted a raid in Votrochap village, around 2 am, as they had learnt about drug distribution, quoting Abdul Momen, Assistant Superintend of Police of Shariatpur.

Sensing police presence, the drug dealers fired gunshots at them, in which law enforcers had to retaliate in ‘self-defense.’ 

Following gunfight, law enforcers found Ruhul Amin Bagha as bullet-hit. However, after being transported to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital, doctors declared him dead on admission.

Police recovered arms and drugs from the spot, ASP added.
