2 Bangladeshi UN peacekeepers killed in CAR

DHAKA: Two Bangladeshi UN peacekeepers were reportedly killed and two others wounded in a road accident in Central African Republic.

The deceased were identified as- Soldier Arjan Hawlader (34th E Bengal, Faridpur) and Soldier (TA) Md Ripul Mia (35 Div Locating Battery Artillery, Rangpur).

The injured are- soldier Md. Jamal Uddin Molla (34th E Bengal, Faridpur) and soldier Md. Majahidul Islam (36th Eddie Regiment Artillery, Naogaon).

The accident happened in Iyalok area of the country on Saturday evening (May 26, local time), according to a press release issued by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate on Sunday (May 27).

The press release also said members of Bangladesh Battalion-4 (Banabat-4) were in charge of security of a fleet of military and civilian vehicles. A wood-laden vehicle lost control, and the accident happened.

The injured were sent to Bangui-capital of CAR for better treatment. The rest of peacekeepers are safe.
