ISHWARDI (PABNA): Five police members were injured during an anti-narcotics drive, as the suspected drug dealers hurled cocktails at the law enforcers, in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna.

The injured police members are—Inspector Motiur Rahman, Constables Rakib Uddin, Mizanur Rahman, Mushihar Ali and Shahidul Islam.

They were admitted to Ishwardi Health Complex.

Pabna Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Jahurul Haque told Banglanews that police earlier nabbed a drug peddler named Dulal, in a drive on Ishwardi-Pabna Highway. Yaba pills were recovered from him.

Later, Dulal’s aides hurled cocktail at police, to snatch him away,around 2:00am.

In retaliation, police opened fire at them.

However, the detainee is a listed drug dealer. He was earlier detained in December 2017 for possessing yaba pils, said the ASP.

He will be sent to the district jail following legal procedure, the ASP said further.
