11 more killed during anti-drug raids

DHAKA: As the drives against drug abuse are continuing countrywide, eleven more suspected drug dealers were killed in separate shootouts with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police, in eight districts, on another night.

The shootouts happened between late Monday (May 21) to early hours of Tuesday (May 22).

Banglanews District Correspondents reported the incidents from the respective districts.

In Cumilla, two suspected drug dealer were killed in a reported gunfight with police, in Gannathpur union under Cumilla sadar. The deceased were identified as Peyar Ali, 24, and Sharif, 26. Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Salam Mia confirmed the news.

In Chuadanga, suspected drug dealer Kamruzzaman Sadu, 38, was killed in a reported shootout with police in Alamdanga. The deceased was accused in 12 cases for various charges including drug, said Alamdanga Police Station OC Abu Jihad Fakhrul Alam Khan.

In Chattogram, suspected drug dealer Shukkur Ali was killed in a shootout with RAB in Bayezid thana area under the city. RAB-7 Senior Assistant Director (Media) Mimtanur Rahman confirmed the news.

In Nilphamari, two suspected drug dealers were killed in shootout with police in Syedpur of Nilphamari. They were identified as Jony, 34, and Shahin, 32. Syedpur Circle ASP Ashok Kumar Paul said two policemen were also injured in the shootout.

In Netrokona, suspected drug dealer Amjad Hossain was killed during a shootout between his cohorts and police, in Medni union under the sadar upazila.

In Dinjapur, suspected drug dealer Probal Hossain, 40, was killed in a reported shootout with the law enforcers, in Birampur upazila. A Sub-Inspector (SI) and an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) were injured in the shootout, Birampur Police Station OC Moklesur Rahman told Banglanews. 

A pistol, bullets, five hand-bombs and two knives were recovered from the spot. The deceased was accused in eight cases for drug abuse, added the OC.

In Narayanganj, suspected drug dealer Bacchu Khan was killed in a reported shootout with RAB in Shimultoli area of Araihazar. A vehicle used in drug peddling was also recovered. RAB-1 Company Commander Anwar Hossain and Araihazar Police Station OC MA Haque said yaba pills and foreign arms were recovered, from the spot.

In Brahmanbaria, suspected drug dealer Dhan Mia, 35, was killed in a reported shootout with RAB, in Sonarampur of Bancharampur. He was accused in four cases. 

In Feni, suspected drug dealer Monjur Alam, 45, was killed on Lemua bridge area, said Rab-7 Squadron Leader Safayat Jamil.

He was a top listed drug dealer and an accused in several cases for drug dealing and robbery.
