4 killed in ‘gunfights’ in 4 districts

BARISHAL, FENI, MYMENSINGH, DINAJPUR: Four alleged criminals were killed in separate ‘shootouts’ with law enforcers in Barishal, Feni, Mymensingh and Dinajpur districts early Sunday.

In Barishal, an unidentified member of a ‘robber gang’ was killed in an alleged gunfight with a team of DB police in Bottola Bazar area of Dakhshin Char-Aicha village under Shayestabad union of sadar upazila.

Kaunia thana OC (officer-in-charge) Nurul Islam, PPM said on information that a gang of robbers was taking preparation for committing robbery in the area, a team of DB police raided there around 3 am.

Sensing the presence of the team, the gang members opened fire on them, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight, police said.

When the robber gang fled the scene, the law enforcers recovered the body from the spot.

The OC said they also recovered a pipe gun, two sharp weapons and eight rounds of bullets from the spot.

Besides, Sub-inspector Delwar and two constables Rafiq and Hafiz were injured during the ‘gunfight’, Nurul Islam added.

In Feni, a suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Pathan Nagar union of Chhagalnaiya upazila early Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Alamgir Hossain, son of late Abdus Salam of Paschim Pathan Gar area.

Chhagalnaiya thana OC (officer-in-charge) M Morshed, PPM said Alamgir was accused in nine cases including of drugs and arms filed with the police station.

On information that Alamgir and his cohorts were staying in a house in the village, a team of law enforcers conducted a drive there around 1 am.

Sensing the presence of police, the drug traders opened fire on law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate, that triggered the gunfight.

After the gunfight, police found the bullet hit body of Alamgir there. All of others managed to flee the scene, however.

Later, Alamgir was rushed to Feni Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Police recovered one pistol, three round cartridges, 1000 pieces of Yaba tablets and 100 bottles of Phensidyl from the house.

In Mymensingh, a suspected drug trader was killed in an alleged gunfight with police at Mashkanda Gonshar intersection in the town around 2:15 am.

According to police, the deceased was identified as Biplob, accused in several cases.

Ashikur Rahman, OC (officer-in-charge) of district detective branch of police, said that being tipped off, a team of detectives conducted drive in the area.

After the gunfight, Biplob was found bullet injured while others managed to flee the scene.

Later, Biplob was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

In Dinajpur, a suspected drug trader was killed in a reported shootout with police in Tegra area under Birol upazilla of the district on early Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Babu.

Birol thana OC (officer-in-charge) Abdul Majid said Babu was involved in trading drugs.

When a team of police conducted drive in the area, the criminals opened fire on them, prompting police to retaliate, triggering the gunfight.

After the gunfight, Babu was found dead.
