DHAKA: Myanmar has refused to take the 2nd list of 10,000 Rohingyas for repatriation citing that it is still working on the 1st list.
Bangladesh prepared the 2nd list ahead of the Joint Working Committee meeting and proposed the list to Myanmar during the meeting on Wednesday (June 17).
According to foreign ministry sources, refusing to take the 2nd list, Myanmar said it will to take the list after repatriation of Rohingyas of first list is completed.
After the joint working committee meeting, foreign secretary M Shahidul Haque said the list is ready and will be given to Myanmar. However, we emphasized on quick repatriation during the meeting.
Earlier on February 16, the first list of 8,032 Rohingyas was handed to Myanmar during Bangladesh-Myanmar foreign ministry level meeting. Myanmar is still working on the list and agreed to take back only 1,101 out of the 8,032 listed Rohingyas.
Earlier Myanmar government said it will take back only verified Rohingyas who fled into Bnagladesh from Myanmar’s Rakhine state following persecution by the country’s military. Though Bangladesh has already provided list for repatriation, Myanmar is taking too long for scrutinizing the list.
