No border killing so far this yr, no more use of lethal weapon BGB, BSF joint press conference in Pilkhana

DHAKA: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) reached a consensus for not using fatal weapons to avoid any unnecessary killings in the border areas. 

In a joint press conference, BGB and BSF said because of the amicable attitude among each other, the border areas have experienced no killing incident so far this year. 

The press conference was held at BGB headquarters in Pilkhana on Thursday noon (April 26) to disclose the outcome of 46th border conference between the two security forces.

BGB Director General (DG) Major General Safinul Islam said, “We have come to an accord for not using lethal weapons in border. BSF are currently using non lethal weapons. Border killing is gradually decreasing and no killing has been reported in the first quarter of this year.”

BSF DG KK Sharma said, “We are very eager and active to bring the number of border killing down to zero. We don’t want any kind of human rights violation along the border.”

When asked about phensedyl smuggling through the border, BSF DG said, “Phensedyl production is legally banned in India and BSF are constantly carrying out raids against the narcotics. In the last, around 5.70 lakh bottles of phensedyl and other narcotics were seized. We are a very much alert to prevent such smuggling into Bangladesh.”
