‘Robber’ killed in Mymensingh shootout

MYMENSINGH: A suspected robber has been killed in a shootout with members of police in Mymensingh’s Fulpur Upazila.

All other identifications including name of the deceased have yet to be identified. He is approximately 40 years old.

Police sources said the man (deceased) was an accused of killing an auto-rickshaw driver Alim Uddin, 40 hailed from Nakla upazilla of Sherpur district.

Fulpur thana OC AKM Mahbub Alam said that a police team had been conducting an operation to arrest criminals in Fulpur’s Shahpur Anwarkhila area around midnight on Friday based on a tip.

He said, “The robbery gang noticed the police presence and opened fire and the team retaliated. The unknown robber, approximately 40 years old, was shot. He was admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.”

Two police personnel were also injured in the incident, the OC added.
