DHAKA: Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested two accused in a murder case filed for killing a journalist in Jatrabari area on March 9.

The accused-Foysal Ahmed and Jahirul Islam Jony-were arrested by a team of DB police of east division, in a drive conducted in Jatrabari on Sunday night (March 18).

Abdul Baten, Joint Commissioner of DB police told journalists at a press briefing at the DMP media center on Monday (March 19).

Police recovered body of Shumon Shikdar, the editor of an online news portal Islamic News Online, from a house in Shaheed Faruk Road of Jatrabari on March 9.

Later a murder case was filed with Jatrabari Police Station following the body recovery.

The deceased, Shumon Shikdar, took Tk 4 to 5 lakh from a youth named Faisal Ahmed in exchange for a job, and give percentage of the news portal.

Later, Faisal deliberately killed Shumon Shikdar for not getting the job at the portal, and not been able get money back after long nagging.

Investigation also reveals that Sumon used to collect money from various institutions, CNG operated auto-rickshaws, by giving the threat of a fake electronic media.
